Virginia Hurricane Evacuation Guide and Other Hurricane Information Resources

As Hurricane Irene approaches the East Coast later this week, and as we head into the traditionally busy hurricane-season months of August and September, it’s a good time to check out the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Hurricane Evacuation Guide.  Both a print version (in PDF) and an interactive online version are available at http://www.virginiadot.org/travel/hurricane_default.asp.

The National Hurricane Center provides alerts, tracking maps, and satellite photos at this Web site, http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/index.shtml.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) posts updates on hurricanes at its blog site, http://blog.fema.gov/search/label/Hurricanes.

Virginia Department of Emergency Management information on hurricane preparedness is at http://www.vaemergency.gov/readyvirginia/stayinformed/hurricanes.
