Heavy Rainfall on Eastern Virginia and Delmarva Peninsula on August 25-26, 2012

On August 25-26, 2012, parts of Virginia received as much as 12 inches of rain from a storm system that pulled Atlantic Ocean moisture over southeastern Virginia and the Delmarva Peninsula.  Total precipitation over those two days, as reported by the Community  Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network (at http://cocorahs.org/ViewData/ListDailyPrecipReports.aspx), included 12.6 inches at Onancock, 8.1 inches in Newport News, and 6.4 inches in Hampton.  The August 26, 2012, precipitation map from the National Weather Service’s Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service, at http://water.weather.gov/precip/, is shown below.
