Background: On December 19, 2011, the National Academy of Sciences released “Uranium Mining in Virginia: Scientific, Technical, Environmental, Human Health and Safety and Regulatory Aspects of Uranium Mining and Processing in Virginia.” The 312-page report was prepared by a 14-member panel at the request of the Virginia Coal and Energy Commission.
