In a September 9, 2012, op-ed article in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, by Corby G. Anderson—a member of National Academy of Sciences (NAS) panel that studied the environmental and safety issues around proposed uranium mining in Virginia—comments on several aspects of the NAS report.

Background: On December 19, 2011, the National Academy of Sciences released “Uranium Mining in Virginia: Scientific, Technical, Environmental, Human Health and Safety and Regulatory Aspects of Uranium Mining and Processing in Virginia.”  The 312-page report was prepared by a 14-member panel at the request of the Virginia Coal and Energy Commission.  The report is available online at http://www.nap.edu/catalog.php?record_id=13266.
