As of the afternoon of 10-25-12, Hurricane Sandy was a Category 2 hurricane centered over the Bahamas and southeast of Florida (see photo following, accessed at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency Web site http://www.goes.noaa.gov/browsh.html, 10/24/12, 4:40 p.m. EDT.).
Sandy’s predicted track is expected to take the center of the storm away from the southeastern U.S. coast, but as the following figure shows, tropical storm-force winds may reach Virginia and other southeastern states, and northeastern states are also on the possible track.
