June 2013 Atlantic Tropical Storm Summary, Issued July 1 from the National Hurricane Center

Below is information from the National Weather Service/National Hurricane Center’s June 2013 tropical weather summary for the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico.  This report was issued by the Center at 8 a.m. EDT on July 1, 2013.  This and other monthly summaries during the Atlantic tropical storm season (June 1-November 30) are available online at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/index.shtml.

“Two tropical storms formed during the month of June in the North Atlantic basin.  Based on a 30-year (1981-2010) average, a tropical storm forms in June in the basin about once every other year.

The Hurricane Center’s list of tropical storms so far during the 2013 Atlantic season is as follows:
Name – Dates – Maximum WindSpeed
TS Andrea – Jun. 5-7 – 65 mph
TS Barry – Jun. 17-20 – 45 mph
(TS = tropical storm)
