Fairfax County Forum on Lawn Care Fertilizer Use and Water-quality Impacts

On July 21, the Virginia Conservation Network and Scotts Miracle-Gro Company teams up to organized a forum in Fairfax County on the connections between urban and suburban landscaping and lawn-care practices and the health of the Chesapeake Bay.  The collaboration and the forum follow passage in the 2011 Virginia General Assembly of bills (HB 1831 and SB 1055) that will prohibit sale in Virginia of lawn-maintenance fertilizer containing phosphorus and of de-icing products containing urea, other nitrogen compounds, or phosphorus (by the end of 2013); require fertilizer applicators to file reports on how much they apply; and require golf courses to have nutrient-management plans (by 2017).
