Paddling Talbott Reservoir on the Dan River in Patrick County, Va. – A July 2012 Account

In A Pristine Place in the July 13, 2012, Roanoke Times, outdoors writer Mark Taylor (now with Trout Unlimited in Roanoke, as of May 2017) described Talbott Reservoir, a six-mile impoundment of the Dan River in Patrick County.  The account was based on a 33-boat paddling trip organized on July 7, 2012, by the Dan River Basin Association.  The reservoir is part of a two-reservoir system for hydroelectric power for the City of Danville.  This relatively remote upstream section of the Dan River flows among scenic ridges and provides a trout fishery.  Permission from the City is required for access to the reservoir.
