The 2013 Maryland Lighthouse Challenge will be held September 20-21. The challenge is mostly in Maryland’s portion of the Bay, but it has several Virginia connections: it includes the Jones Point Lighthouse in Alexandria; four Maryland stops are just across the Potomac River from Virginia; and the event is organized by the Chesapeake Chapter of the U.S. Lighthouse Society, which is headquartered in Annandale. The 2013 challenge is to visit (by road) 10 lighthouses in two days, with the chance to visit three other “bonus” stops (including the Alexandria lighthouse).
