Current Issues in Worldwide Shipping and Ports Featured in Two Public Radio Stories in March 2014

On March 12 and 13, 2014, NPR (formerly known as National Public Radio) carried two feature reports on developments in the worldwide shipping industry and the efforts of ports (including the Port of Virginia in Hampton Roads and other locations) to respond to those changes, such as larger ships able to transport more containers of cargo.  The reports, “After a Downturn, Global Shipping Bets Big on Everything” (5 min./3 sec.) and “Hitching a Ride on the World’s Biggest Cargo Ship” (6 min./20 sec), both by reporter Julie Northam, are available online at this link: http://www.npr.org/blogs/parallels/2014/03/12/288570982/after-a-downturn-global-shipping-bets-big-on-everything.

Information about Virginia’s ports is available online at http://www.portofvirginia.com/; or phone the Port of Virginia at (800) 446-8098.
