Virginia’s Local Wetlands Boards are Focus of May 5, 2016, Tidal Wetlands Workshop at VIMS

On May 5, 2016, at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) in Gloucester Point, Va., the Institute’s Center for Coastal Resource Management is holding its annual Spring Tidal Wetlands Workshop.  The theme this year is “Legal Authority, Roles, and Responsibilities of Local Wetlands Boards.”  According to VIMS, the planned program will cover the various legal challenges that Wetlands Boards deal with on a regular basis.  Some of the expected topics are the legal authority granted by the Code of Virginia, public hearings, the living shoreline preference policy, wetlands compensation, and enforcement and compliance matters.
