On Virginia Water Radio for 5-16-16: An Introduction to Powerful Music for Cello, with a Water Aspect

Virginia Water Radio’s latest episode, for the week of May 16, 2016, is “Capturing Power from Water and Other Source in Music for the Cello.”  The 3 min./52 sec. episode, available online at http://www.virginiawaterradio.org/2016/05/episode-316-5-16-16-capturing-power.html, features part of the “water” movement of the American Power suite of music for cello, performed in this episode by a Blacksburg, Va., high school senior.  The American Power suite was composed in 2011 by Erik Friedlander to accompany a photography collection of the same name published in 2009 by Mitch Epstein.  Both creations focus on the various kinds of power and energy in the United States, including hydropower.
